FreshByte Item Code Set up - Weight classifications
FreshByte Item Code Setup has (3) different options for Master Unit of Measure. 'None', 'Catch Weight', and 'Net Weight.
1. Regular Item: In FreshByte, a regular item is defined as an item that is purchased and sold by the case. The item is classified as 'NONE' in the weight classification of the misc. tab in the Item Master. The item is a Case in/Case out item. The Master Unit of Measure is Case. The item can have one or several alternate units of measure, but it is not required. Ex: EA. The item can be priced by case or each. The user has the option of entering a weight in the weight field, but it is priced by the case or priced by the alternate Unit of Measure (AUOM). It is not priced by the weight of the item. The user can right-click in edit mode in the factor field. The system will display the factor in relation to the Master Unit of measure.
Note: For half case the factor is 2
2. Net Weight Item: In FreshByte, a Net Weight Item is a fixed-weight Item (always the same weight) that is purchased/sold at a weighted unit price.
On the Units Tab, the Master Unit is entered (ex. case) and the weight classification radio button underneath the Master UOM must be selected ‘Net Weight’.
For a Net Weight item, the alternate unit of measure section is required. Select 'Add' at the bottom of the screen to add the weighted unit of measure. Ex. lb, or KG. or other weighted unit of measure. The factor at the bottom of the units tab will be in whole units correlating to the total in the Master UOM. In addition, the user must select ‘Net Weight UOM’ in the field labeled Catch/Net Weight. The field will display as purple. The 'Receiving Weight UOM' field must also be checked.
The user has the option to add additional alternate Units of measure if needed. (Ex: EA for eaches)
Example: Item is always a 10# case. It is priced by the lb.
The Master UOM should be the largest unit purchased/sold. (Ex: CS)
An Alternate UOM is required and should be a weighted UOM. (Ex: lb.)
NOTE: If there are multiple weighted 'Unit of Measures' (UOMs) in the Alternate list, only one should be marked as the preferred unit of measure.
3. Catch Weight Item:In FreshByte, a Catch Weight item is defined as an Item that is a variable weight and is purchased/sold by the weighted unit price. The variable weight item typically has an average weight for the Alternate unit of measure.
Ex: A case of cheese weighs an average of 40 lbs.; however, each case varies in weight.
Catch Weight items require recording of 2 Units of measure (UOMs) at the time of purchase and sale. The preferred unit of measure and pricing unit of measure. Both quantity and exact weight must be entered at the time of receiving.
On the Units Tab, The Master Unit must be the Weighted unit of measure (ex. lb.) and the weight classification radio button underneath the Master UOM must be selected ‘Catch Weight’.
For a Catch Weight item, an alternate unit of measure section is required and should be the largest unit purchased/sold such as Case. Select 'Add' at the bottom of the screen to add the alternate unit of measure.
The factor at the bottom of the units tab for the alternate unit of measure will always be a decimal in relation to the weighted unit of measure. Example: Case weighs an average of 50 lbs. The factor will be 1 / 50 = .02
In addition, the user must select 'Quantitative UOM' in the field labeled Catch/Net Weight UOM. The 'Preferred UOM' field must also be checked.
The user has the option to add additional alternate Units of measure if needed. (Ex: EA for eaches)
A catch weight item will always display the Master UOM as the weighted UOM example (LB or KG)
An Alternate UOM is required and should be the largest unit purchased/sold. (Ex: CS)
